Top companies for brand manager exits
Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.
Should I stay or should I go?

First question- what are the indicators that you’re falling behind? Has anyone addressed it directly with you? Starting a new job is always stressful. Advertising famous for trial-by-fire ‘onboarding’. If you’re 9 months in and no one has explicitly told you you’re falling behind then I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. If you’re typically a high achiever just remember that your ‘80%’ could look like someone else’s 110%. If someone has given you feedback, be open and ask for concrete examples of where you can improve. Follow up periodically if you don’t get further feedback. But in this instance, please also be gentle with yourself! You’re learning…that’s what your first jobs are for! Good luck
Every manager is different but one of the best things that ever happened to was when I was just getting started with my current boss. He’s not much for subtext and feelings, and I’m super anxious and hate subtext too. So, we agreed that unless someone explicitly says something is wrong, we can assume it’s all good. It’s helped me a lot when I was feeling really anxious and very imposter syndrome-y.
Not sure if you can have that kind of direct conversation with your manager. If not, then I encourage you to *try* to abandon the need for continuous positive feedback and for now, just assume you’re doing great unless someone tells you you’re not! I promise that if you’re not delivering to satisfaction, it will become clear. Either there will be warnings, or you’ll start to get fewer key tasks, etc etc. Tbh it sounds like you’re eager and wanting to do a great job. That’s a perfect place to start. Hang in there! xx
You should look into seeing if you have any professional development funds you could use to maybe get some coaching or courses on the areas of improvement.
