Interesting practice but the hours are terrible and work life balance is nonexistent unless things are very slow. That said I wouldn’t do anything else
No. Work-life balance is non existent, everything is a last minute emergency, there are no exit options, and it's difficult to drink the kool-aid enough to feel like you're making the world a better place.
Great insight, thank you
Finance and restructuring are typically two different practices.
Are you a junior? Are you moving from a different practice area? I think front end finance deals are typically less hectic and crazing than restructurings. I did some of both when I was a junior and found the restructuring deals to be more intellectually stimulating but more tiring. That said front-end financings are more routine and its easier to get into a rhythm. Finance deals never really get paid off and there are lots of amendments and post-closing work. Happy to answer any DMs if easier.
I love restructuring (4Y associate). Varied practice, always learning, interesting issues. I’m at a firm though and do think about the lack of exit opps.
