@S2, even industry jobs pay for you to travel to their offices if they are in a different market, pretty hard to sell yourself to a potential candidate if you aren't willing to fork over the 1k or so in incremental recruiting expense
OP who are you traveling to meet, would this be a final round?
Honestly if the office isn't interested enough to spend $500 to get you out there for the day... I don't understand why you would travel on your own dime.
Ya, I've never heard of anything like this. Sounds like it must be a mistake of some kind? Super weird.
Hey man I just got here. I've got my own opinion and we usually recruit local resources. I don't know anyone in my office, NYC, that moved here for a job. Our whole appeal is work where you live.
@OP please enlighten us with the details.
Does Slalom1 work for Slalom HR?
Anyone else think people who start sentences with "think about it" are douches?
I texted my friend who works there and she said "that sounds about right", but what??? I think for most of their recruiting they find people already in their city, so it's a bit different for me. Maybe this recruiter is new. Idk, I think I might ask to speak with someone else about it.
OP, sounds like you have only spoken with a recruiter so far..
I suggest you ask to do a phone interview with someone in the practice and then see where things go.
Recruiting at Slalom can be a long process, especially at a new office. Even if they love you in person it's possible you wouldn't get an offer right away.
Absolutely do not travel on your own dime just for an interview! If you happen to be in town for another reason, coordinate an interview if the the timing works out.
Fake
Nope
Good on you @SC3!!
S3 - good on you. Hope you are able to address it, and if you do, we need more leaders like you who act on feedback. 👍
Recruiting can be rough. We generally don't hire unless we have a role ready for you. So there can be a long wait. I've never heard of this asking people to travel and not paying for it thing before but in confident that we will work that out. @A8 if that's how you feel then that's fine doesn't change how I feel about working at Slalom though. It's great.
Counter with the offer to have a virtual interview.
Where are you going to and from?
Are they asking you to move?
It's a test. How will you respond?
You're joking right?
Maybe they reimburse you?
Where are you currently (company wise)? Is Slalom a jump or lateral? Things to consider.
@OP why would you do that....
Would not touch them!!! If they are that cheep, just think of how they will treat you when they have you
