I just went about 6 weeks ago. The volcano was the highlight and is like 30 minutes from the airport. It was very windy, wet, and cold when hiking up there so make sure you have some gore Tex jacket to keep the wind off of you. Go in the evening, although it’s light 22 hours a day at this point. The second best thing was hiking to svartifoss waterfall in vatnajokull national park. That area around svartifoss was my favorite to find and go on hikes. A lot of glaciers you can hike too near there too. Make sure you keep snacks, food can be hard to find because everything in Iceland closes fairly early for the most part. Many of the gas stations don’t have people and you need a pin on your debit card to use them, so keep that in mind. My favorite place to eat in Reykeyiavik for a quick bite was lamb street food.
Appreciate the info! Also how was Iceland coming out of the pandemic in terms of businesses open or the people in general?
Also I could use my credit card at places in Iceland like gas stations, or is it only debit card?
Make sure to book Blue Lagoon in advance - thank me later!
Roadtrip around the Ring Road!! Just did this last month and it was awesome. There’s a lot of great itineraries online you can check out
We were there for a week, def would’ve preferred some extra time so we wouldn’t have to be going hard all the time but got to see a lot. Can share more specific itinerary and recs if you’re interested.
In terms of coming out of pandemic, it felt pretty normal. Businesses were open and nobody was really wearing masks.
My family and I are going for two weeks in October! We're planning on doing a glacier hike, some snowmobiling, and hiking up to the volcano if it's still active🤞. There's a place where you can dive between two continents, like a million different waterfalls to visit, whale watching, etc. Loads to do, def recommend doing some research beforehand so you're not overwhelmed later
Day trips are the best! Nice travel has all you need and great guides.
Center Hotel was a great value
