First week at one of the Big 4.. past consulting gigs allowed immense flexibility and importance to WLB. Feel like there is no such thing here. How do you manage WLB and set boundaries?

You have to start with what 'time/location' is meaningful to you and makes a difference. This is going to be different for everyone.

Then you have to think about what are you willing to give to get that time, and what is reasonable for the client and leadership.

For example, getting home slightly earlier on Thursday makes a huge difference to me, but I don't mind making up for it by being there earlier than other people on Monday. I would also love to get up at 7:00, workout and then go to the client site, but realistically that doesn't work if I want to get there by 8:00 or 8:30.

It's also something that grows and changes over time, partially as you learn what works for you and makes a difference for you.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

Some of the white generational wealth I've seen as a financial advisor is actually scary. It's laughable that we expect people without that privilege to ever achieve success in the same ways and to the same degree. Chances are even if you do, you'll have had to work harder in your life than they ever have. Lowkey kind of makes me sick to my stomach.
