For any junior retool candidates - is it better to direct apply than to use a recruiter? It would be a 3rd yr lit to transactional retool.

Just my two cents. I made this move and hate it. I lost all predictability and flexibility in my schedule and have worked literally everyday. I am lateraling back now. Just think carefully about the trade offs and WHY you want to make the move. I thought I hated lit but realized I hated it as a junior because of the type of tasks (research, discovery, etc.). Now as a mid level I will be doing more of the “fun” stuff so I probably should have stuck it out.

Just curious, why do you want to make this switch? Litigation seems to be much more in demand right now and probably will be safer from AI disruption for longer

Third year is prime retool time. Internal referral or recruiter. I used a recruiter to retool. It was extremely valuable for the interview preparation process.

Decided that I’m leaving audit today. Trying to understand the full range of opportunities in forensics. Will have my CPA and CFE. So far, I understand that there are client-serving firms like FTI and then the B4 will have forensics arms as well. What are some other forensic accounting roles? Pros and cons? Better than audit? Honestly just looking to learn anything.

Hi boys & girls!

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to bill more hours, so my goal is to become the type of person who bills at least 8 a day
-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?

I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
