Don’t you have a PD (position description)? If so, refer to it first. If you don’t, or your PD is inaccurate, approach your supervisor or GC and share whatever questions you have about your role and how it fits within the overall team.
I would frame it as:
- I like my job
- I want to be successful in it and help the org
- I also want to grow professionally
- discussing these questions/issues with you will give me a better understanding so that I can be of greater use and benefit to you, the team and the overall org.
Overall advice - don’t be too proud to ask questions. Asking questions doesn’t reveal weakness. Weakness is being too afraid to ask questions when you have them. If it feels impossible to ask questions - remember it’s like any other muscle - it takes practice - start small and overtime you’ll build a question-asking superpower. And it won’t just help you personally it will help your client(s) as well.
