I spend closer to 800 to 1000 on my 18 month old and we don’t have daycare. If you end up using formula that can easily be an extra 400/month
Whatever you're thinking, add 50% for reality. Then add another 20% for crap your spouse will buy the kid that it doesn't need.

I don’t even think there’s a rational explanation. I just find myself with the urge to buy random things that I think they’ll like. And when you have an older and younger, you want to make sure you’re not playing favorites so you double up.
Welcome to the arena. Average good daycare cost 2000 a month, assuming you and the wife both work. Also other essentials can run around 2k a month!!
Child care is obviously the largest expense. My wife stopped teaching when we had kids since her job barely covered the cost of daycare in Chicago. So outside of the initial costs (crib, stroller, etc), our monthly expenses were minimal until they were school age. Things get more expensive once they’re in school and doing multiple activities (sports, dance, etc).
Probably $20kish/annual for our 2 year old
