Job has up to 80% travel PwC
How is typically life for these positions requiring travel? This is for a SWE position.
Currently work with clients is remote as stated by the recruiter. If work is currently feasible through virtual means, will there be flexibility to choose to travel for this position?
I have an offer with PWC and have a family. I would prefer to be with my family.

Salesforce no question.
Salesforce.
I think AWS is a good choice if you're at the start of your career, simply more prestigious and a bit of a boot camp, but when you start caring about your health and wellbeing, Salesforce.
I’m currently at AWS, having previously been at a company that was acquired by Salesforce. I’m inclined to stay at AWS, since of all the several software companies I’ve worked at, AWS is the only one where there is a pervasive attitude of facing hard problems with a steely stare, breaking them down into smaller pieces, and then solving them one slogging and painful step at at time until the hard problem is solved. No hand-wringing and fretting and giving up, just an expectation that every problem is solvable with a sufficient application of effort.
It is also the hardest job I’ve ever had: all my teammates are smart and hard-working, and I have to bust my butt to feel as if I’m pulling my weight.
Not my experience. I'm working on an internal service that was neglected for over 6 years. It is so far behind in terms of IE that i could spend a whole year cleaning it up. Other engineers are just terrified of it and management keeps chasing more important priorities.
Like in every organizations, YMMV based on your team and management chain.
Depends on what you’re doing
Why?
Has anyone worked at both? In the exact same role? Otherwise, take their comments accordingly.
Apparently Amazon is more popular: https://Mirajobs.com/top/rating However, many people have complained about hire-to-fire cases and mandatory attrition rate across teams, so IMO it’s more due to employer brand marketing…
AWS is a toxic workplace and extremely ops heavy. You will be solving lots of tickets and doing very little coding. They also have a policy of hiring, burning people out and then letting them go once they can pull in 14 hour days anymore. So, for long term health and career I would choose Salesforce.
Both positions would be technical documentation. Similar TC.
Salesforce
For those with government clearances, I’ve seen people choose Microsoft and AWS over Salesforce for the high clearance bonuses.
Salesforce hands down
Absolutely SF know folks at both
I’ll add that SF benefits are much better when you get into the details based on what I’ve seen/heard, and the pandemic support for their workforce compared to Amazon is light years ahead. Just a much more employee friendly operation. Amazon seems like a grind.
Really depends on what you want to do. If you're SDE probably AWS for a bit. Salesforce is a more wlb place though...
I have been told bye People and Salesforce that Amazon pays better. I have a friend that works at tableau that feels totally screwed going to salesforce. Obviously you wanna love your work but pay matters
I recently joined Tableau but it’s true from what I’ve heard from people with more seniority that they feel all things that made Tableau’s culture great is slowly being eaten away from the acquisition. But to be fair, people are generally still very happy and doing their best to keep Tableau’s core culture alive and I’m sure people from Mulesoft feel the same way. Regarding pay, it’s at the fair range but the lack of RSU refresh is disappointing for sure. However, I’m curious about how many people actually stick around to benefit from all the Amazon RSU has to offer.
Salesforce gets tech writing!
AWS is the best place I've ever worked.
I worked at AWS Infra&Supply Chain for 2 years. The organization was very toxic and that was the main reason I left. That said, once you have Amazon/AWS in your resume, many doors will open to you, but be aware that you will probably be recruiting again within 2-3 years.
Need someone to gut check me on this but isn't AWS distinct/varied from Amazon from a culture perspective?
