Goal is to apply for Mba programs in 3-4 years. Currently in PwC deals and passed by promotion to senior. Just received an offer from a PE firm (fund accounting, quantitative analysis). Should I stay

I’d just suggest being absolutely sure that you will get that type of experience at PE fund. I can’t tell you how many people who have left to tell me that’s what they are doing just to end up in a pure fund accounting role. Not sure about the MBA question though

like

Don’t go to back office in any PE firm. That would be a mistake. You’re better off in b4 deals, especially to go to b school. Shoot for a front office role if you’re going to leave, other folks in deals do that.

How about a middle office role?

Long term goal is doing strategy and operation leadership role in Corp. I hate my team but I know deals is a good place to get experience. Wanted to explore PE as I can do a lot of quantitative analysis and assist in operations. But for Mba program application, would it be better to stay in big 4 deals instead of joining a PE firm as a junior accountant/analyst? Please help.

You can spin whatever you are doing on an MBA application. The brand name (EY or well known PE firm) plus some good spin on your resume and application and you’re golden

Don’t you only need two years of experience for MBA?

Go to B school as soon as you can. No need to wait 3-4 years. Just apply as soon as you get the gmat score you need. Opportunity cost of staying is too high if you know you want to get T25 MBA and change careers

I think middle office is a tricky thing. I can see front office ppl consume some middle office work but not very likely the other way around. My two cents, stay in big4, go to bschool after your first year senior, then go to PE with an assoc role.

I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Also, I had some Interest in CyberSecurity and I grinded it on my pre-final semester at Uni, should I try on that path as well or should I stick to development?

My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.
