Going through IVF in biglaw (think crazy hours). For anyone who went through this, how did you navigate all the hormones changes, shots and doctor appointments with a heavy workload? Worried that I’m taking so much time off and will have to take more time for the transfer itself during an extremely busy period.

As someone who struggled with fertility while in big law and ended up having the children I wanted, I cannot emphasize enough how much you've got to push the thoughts aside.

I have so many thoughts and opinions, but the short version is this is your life and you can't let your employer dictate what you do with your family. If you give them that power now, they'll think they are entitled to the same once your children are in the picture.

I get it that it's way easier said than done, but if this is what you truly want please power through what you are able but don't saddle yourself with guilt.

Wishing you luck in these very stressful times!

I did three retrievals and two transfers while in BL. First retrieval was fine and didn’t impact my work. Later rounds were rough with a lot more side effects and I wish I had asked about intermittent STD leave.

Being at a good clinic with competent front office staff and nurses makes all the difference (we changed after my second retrieval/first transfer and the experience was night and day).

Try to schedule out all appointments for as early in the morning as possible to minimize disruptions to your schedule.

My husband took full responsibility for mixing all shots and making sure I got them all at the right times. Taking that mental load off helped a lot.

Best wishes!! It was hard but manageable and worth it in the end! I told my boss after a later round and he was really supportive and I wish I had shared with my team sooner.

From other posts, I’ve heard of a few that did intermittent leave but probably not like an extended leave throughout the entire cycle.

Wishing you the best of luck! I’ve done 3 retrievals, 3 transfers, had 1 miscarriage, 5 hysterocopys under anesthesia, 1 baby, and and pregnant with my second. I am now a big law NEP. I always took the earliest appointments that I could get. I took my computer with me to every appointment and responded to emails in the waiting room. On retrieval/transfer/hysteroscopy days I told my teams that I was having a procedure under anesthesia. I told the partner that I was closest to (and that I worked with most closely) that I was doing IVF and she was very understanding. I fit in work when I could (early morning before procedures and later in the day/at night after the anesthesia and grogginess wore off). Honestly it’s good practice for managing big law with a child because pregnancy symptoms and then drop off/pick up/sicknesses/holidays/dr appointments with a child have been way harder to manage than fertility treatments….

Didn’t do ivf, but did two rounds of egg freezing. It was hard, tbh. Definitely wfh as much as possible during those periods.

I did all of the appointments in the early morning before work, but you don’t have control over when you’re ready for a trigger shot/have the retrieval, so that can make things challenging with scheduling.

Good luck! It’s been really challenging — the side effects hit me way harder than I expected and my hours took a significant hit.

Hey CGI folks, from where can I see current year holiday list for 2021 in India?

Are ya’ll getting holiday gifts for your judge & JA and if so, what are you getting for them? The culture of my court is definitely a gift-giving one, and I really like my JA and my judge so I want to get both of them something small (like a plant, but not a plant lol).

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

Since we're headed towards cold weather and the holiday season, let's talk about how we can take care of ourselves during the fall/winter and beyond. For example, I'm buying a sun lamp because it's about to be 50 degrees and raining for 6 months 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Burnout is because you did something consistently for an extended period. You can do quick fixes like go on vacation, get some sleep, exercise more. But they may only help temporarily, depending on your level of Burnout.

Try adjusting your approach to work / life to a more sustainable, and ideally, enjoyable balance.

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?

Starting a new job next month, and considering taking two days off for kids’ spring break next month. Not sure whether it’s appropriate to request time off for a new job (I would’ve preferred not to take any time off for first three months). I may just be able to just ask for a single Friday off (so 1 day rather than 2 days).

Any thoughts on whether I should proceed with the request? I just came from big law and want to make sure I’m not making a bad impression on my colleagues.

Any update about company present WFH policy for their Gurgaon location?

Any firms that use CCH make sure your invoices are being checked carefully. We just reviewed ours and were over-billed the last 2 years. We were supposed to have discounts and the math wasn’t even correct across for the amount times the discount to the amount billed. The worst part is our rep then gave a bullshit story of how the list price was incorrect on the invoice but the amount billed was correct.
