I have an oral argument coming up tomorrow regarding a support issue. I just realized an error concerning the monthly supprt amount I arrived at in my brief. Is it a big deal if I correct it during argument tomorrow?rather than $1,005 its $825 per month

Shouldn't be a big deal.

like

I don’t think it would really be a problem, just let the court know at the beginning of the argument and if there’s an issue where opposing counsel objects and for some reason the court won’t allow, you can ask that the argument be adjourned so that opposing counsel can have an opportunity to recalculate if it’s that big of a concern. However I would just mention it and follow through with your argument with the updated amount

smart

Not a big deal. You’re good. Just start with it. I’d also mention it to OPC before hand if possible

like

Make copies of your calculations and have them available for the Judge and OC so you can walk them through it if they ask.

like

NBD. Just bring dissomaster printouts and explain.

Bring it up ASAP. Then go from there. Most judges understand calculation errors can happen and will appreciate your candor.

No big deal. You can email the updated support calculation to other side and explain to judge.

What days does your firm close for the holidays? Are you all working on January 2nd?

(I don't want to be a task master, but as an associate, I was expected to work a half day on the 24th, and a half day on the 31st. I'm closing the office 23rd and 26th this year, but currently listed as open on Jan. 2nd).

What’s a good starting salary for a newer attorney? I’ve never worked anywhere but in the public sector (even before becoming an attorney). I currently clerk for a judge and now am up to $44k as of July 1. I’m in KY. I’ve recently had a couple attorneys reach out to me about joining their practice. I’m not ready to leave my current role but I have no idea what to consider as a reasonable salary. I’ve been licensed a year and this is my first law-related job so I’m a complete newbie.

Does anyone have advice about interviewing somewhere with bad Yelp/google reviews? Is it OK to ask about it in an interview? Does any law office, for the most part, have “good” reviews, especially family law? The reviews I read on lots of law office pages are usually people who are accusing the firm of over-billing, not doing enough work or losing/obtaining an unfavorable outcome. How much attention should one pay to this when looking for a new firm at which to work?

A relative is raising a teenage son with her ex-husband. They have joint physical custody. The ex-husband has re-married. When the son is in his care, he often leaves the son at home in California with his (new) wife when he travels for work (which is often). The relative wants her ex-husband to leave their son in her care when he travels out of town but the ex-husband disagrees. The relative wants to know her chances of prevailing if she were to appear in court on this issue. Thoughts? Thanks!
