Got an offer! But… I’d be a contractor, not an employee. No benefits, no job security, just “flexibility.” Should I take it while I keep looking, or is this just a sneaky way to avoid paying full-time salaries?? Or is it just better to have a job that none at all??

I'd say take it. You don't know when the next offer will come. At least you aren't draining your savings and if it goes well, maybe it will become a full time job.

I was offered 85 dollars an hour and guaranteed full time as a pm for contract work. I know others that got 105 an hour full time. I would take it and build from there. I doubled that in salary at my current job. Take what you can get and build.

If you need $$, take it and keep looking. Take advantage of it to build new skills for your resume. Best of luck!

What’s the downside of not taking it?

I get it! You wanted full time with benefits, but I think this is better than being unemployed.

If I were you, I would take it and continue looking for something else

like

Contract work tends to pay extra well to balance the trade-off of not getting real benefits or having any long-term job security.
Probably worth taking it, but I'd definitely advise negotiating for a nice pay rate if they're not already offering you one.

How much does it pay and is it permanent?

Check out the Overemployed thread….

Take it! Stuff is becoming harder and harder to come by these days

Flexibility in addition to pay. There is a negative for the company in that you will be less engaged than an employee. Get good terms for the work and walk when you get something better.

I recommend accepting the position. Job hunting is typically more effective when you're currently employed. Wishing you all the best!

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

Anybody know salary range for VP Operations for GS in SLC?

Currently I work for a small company that does the construction of small cell utility poles and roof top sites for the major cell carriers like VZW, T-mobile, AT&T and so on. I am a project coordinator but I do everything under the sun. Created project tracker. Submitti bids, sourcing material, negotiating price on materials, handling post construction inspections, scheduling sub contractors, notifying stakeholders, coordinating with construction managers - property owners - building management.

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise
