Got an offer from a boutique consultancy for a manager role, seems to be better WLB, pay and scope.

However have a dilemma if I should try to get promoted in my current company, as it is looking likely that I will this May.
Then look to leave in a year or two instead, as I know I want to leave at some point question is should I do it now or later

Has anyone else been a similar position? Would be good to get some advice on what you have done, or wish you had done

What are the best consulting firms to have a clear path to exit into big tech?

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.
