There is no WLB for senior managers, surely you must know that. Sales are very dependent on economy, seasonality and clients you get assigned. To me personally, switching firms as an SM is career suicide unless 1. You have strong senior backing partners now at Deloitte who are pulling you in and 2. You’re confident of your value prop and sales ability.
You’ve never had a sales target (!) so get ready to grind, grind, grind. Pipeline pressure is intense. Partners will ride you like a mule for 2-3 years and dump you while your longer tenure SM peers get put up for partner.
TLDR: you’ll be miserable & won’t have time to spend your extra 25%.
You will be miserable! SM is the worst! I was an SM at Deloitte - hated my life! I also switched from Accenture and did not have the network, you can’t survive. It’s a cult. They will lay you off if you miss your targets, and this economy is so bad
I got laid off, so I hope this does not happen to you! It took me a year to find a job, and I chose to do a contractor role that pays me more than the SM at Deloitte with less stress doing consulting work

SM without a sales target ftw.
That’s what I have it here but I know I’m not being paid at market as of now (or may be low end of market)
Deloitte is a mess.
Only you can answer this question.
Take a more aggressive position from a career standpoint, get a nice money grab, at the risk of more pressure and worse WLB, with higher comp potential, higher rank expectations, at a more reputable consultancy.
Or stay the course, risk stagnating, with less upside. And there’s nothing wrong with choosing this path if WLB is important and the compensation / trajectory isn’t a major deciding factor.
Need more info. What sort of work do you do? I’ve seen some new joiners shoot up coz they filled a known gap in the SM ranks. I’ve seen folks come in and get lost.
This will be level up for your as D SMs are 1-1.5 levels above ACN SM
At SM WLB is tough in any firm esp w sales targets. That’s life.
I joined as a SM and it was the best decision I ever made. Really depends on the practice - but I had work life balance. At times it was tough - just like anywhere when there is a deadline - but I'm sure this depends on which practice you are in. I'm in Consulting - Human Capital and highly recommend. Also, making P/MD is absolutely worth it.
Depends on the practice. I know Deloitte’s SAP practice is brutal. No WLB.
WLB is horrible for SMs
Deloitte is bad but not as bad as acn. Having said that, SM is typically the toughest levels to join the firm at. Very few people thrive, most leave in a year.
Depends on practice
Deloitte and WLB are two parallel lines , we talk about them a lot and set an illusion , but they will never meet
SM expectations are same at both places
I do feel like D is more structured. I’ve worked with a few MDs who came from D to Accenture and they seem very confused at the lack of structure we seem to have. They’re use to having teams of analysts and consultants to pull on that can pull together research and analysis quickly and in a more refined manner vs how we do it (ie reaching out to ppl for help on BD if they aren’t chargeable on an account, etc and working around others’ “free time”). I think when they are running an opportunity, they focus their resources in and they invest in client relationships long term rather than opportunistically.
Losing your whole network and sales targets?! No way for 25% more
Your internal ACN network that is also only connected to other ACN people?
Worst company I ever worked for. Avoid at all costs...
What’s the offer amount?
SM2: I am not measured against the sales work I do currently. From what I’ve been told, it’s a measurable metric at SM level at D.
as long as partners support you, you will be able to meet sales target. no need to be worried. when partners could not meet target, all of us will go to market together
I'm SM at Deloitte Digital, was ex-ACN. At Deloitte, your SM experience will depend on the practice you join at. In Digital, SM's don't have a true sales target - just util and team sales (which you can meet as part of the bidding team or the team that sells on additional work). Only directors at DD have true sales targets to their name. WLB is also pretty decent and not too different from ACN.
But, again, depends on which practice you're going into.
At least your pay check will be deposited by the 15th and by end of the mth. ;)
I occasionally drop in just to remind myself of why I'm so happy to be retired! Good luck to all!!
