Resign immediately and go for your MBA! The fact that you’ve been denied sponsorship from your firm tells me loud and clear that your future at the firm is quite uncertain and that you’ll continue to face challenges (promos, compensation, bonuses, etc.) especially because of mediocre performance. If you don’t have your bosses’ support regardless of low ute then it means that they don’t value you much. Also, think about it - is it really worth waiting a year? Will you really be able to pull your socks up and show marked improvement in your perf? Will you defer your admission or reapply and hope to get in again? Nothing is certain and you may very well be denied next year
Go to bschool and don’t look back. Spread your wings, my friend!
PS: I know it’s a huge commitment and the opportunity cost is high but you’ll make that money and more a few years out of MBA. Don’t worry about the $ (esp when you aren’t guaranteed anything next year!)
OP - I can totally relate to your struggle. Life sometimes shows you the path, but it’s on you to seize it, like what IBM2 said, it’s time to fly.
There is no “top MBA” outside of M7. Sorry to break the news
@IBM2 i got into LBS/INSEAD
Both are excellent programs. I’d take it and not have any regrets if I were you. But at the end of the day, you gotta trust your gut and follow it. Good luck, OP!
OP, my two cents : If instead the lost revenue is only for a year and the sponsorship that D gives is taxed... one ends up receiving only 60% of the cost and only after 2 years of coming back to the firm! Tis in my opinion is something u can easily recuperate from a signing bonus in any firm!
Are you doing the MBA only to stay with the firm in long term? In my case sponsorship is just good to have while going to top MBA is my life milestone. Eventually only you know which comes first.
^I will need some luck to pull it through as not all leadership supports me. Would have to stay for another year as pre-MBA, delaying my advancemenent
The assumption is you will be able to turn it around in a year.
Go and never look back.
Thanks for the input guys. My one question is that now I don’t have a rationale to spend 100K on B-School. I already have an MSc degree so not sure how an MBA will help. I’m also considering to take a year off and see what role I can find (either PE or Tech; I already have an offer from Uber as an Ops Manager). If nothing good comes up, I will apply for an MBA.
This however would mean that I would have to retake the GMAT (the current one will expire) and will have to apply without a strong story.
Which ‘top EU MBA’ did you get into? The answer to that question will dictate my answer. Breaking into PE will be very tough without a top MBA. You might be able to get ops roles right now if you got an Uber ops offer...but it’ll still be challenging. I see what you’re saying though as you already have a grad degree. It may not make sense for you at all. However, if you got into INSEAD, then I’d say def go. Fuck the $100K.
I did an exchange at one of the better schools in Spain, 5-10 in Europe. The classmates I met there have landed really cool gigs all over the globe.
