File a formal complaint and ride the bench until you find a new job. Tell them he was aggressive and called you bad names.
It sounds like that ship might have already sailed. What was said in this conversation?
You could try and apologize profusely, mention the stress of covid is getting to you and clarify that you didnt resign.
If your plan is to leave anyway and you are getting into heated arguments with your boss, maybe it is time to focus on finding the next role and not rebuilding burned bridges.
Sometimes that’s what damage control requires, but you do you. And no real research effort; it’s a topic I’m familiar with.

Bottom line you need to address this confusion with your partner right away.

Who is the Partner telling? Clearly this is a messed up relationship at this point, and you need to leave. But, in the short term, if (s)he’s telling less experienced folks they are probably just petty and there won’t be any active consequences so just look for a job and get out. If they are telling senior leaders and there are layoffs, I’d consider yourself on that list and expect it.
I’d still approach this person to clarify what and why they’re saying this and that it’s not accurate. If they comfort you on that call, I wouldn’t trust them.
Basically, you now need to leave it’s just a matter of when and whether it will be on your terms or not.
He told senior leaders, who told their closest colleagues who told me. In essence I’m definitely leaving, it’s just a matter of squeezing as many weeks out of them as possible while I search for a new position.
Imagine if he thinks you resigned and left and you just end up coasting on the bench getting paid for like 6m.
Imagine heaven
Update - he apologised the information was leaked. Told me the decision was mine to make when I want. Thanks all for the input
Is the Partner able to ‘tell me’ I resigned or can I draw on the lack of written confirmation to push back?

In this current situation, they can make up anything to cut expenses. Don’t think these firms have integrity whatsoever.
