IU. Here’s why: I’ve heard about Kelley. Just had to google UMDs BS school’s name. Speaks volumes. I went to B school for my undergrad, and let me tell you, no one cares how hard it’s to get into. It’s all about how strong the name and the network are. Otherwise don’t invest. My $0.02
Glad I posted this. He was really leaning towards UMD because there’s such a negative bias about IU compared to maryland locally. He got no money for UMD, and direct admit to kelly and money. Just hopes he sticks to business lol.
UMD sends way too many kids to Federal Consulting. IU all the way
I lead our consulting recruiting at IU, we
hire 50+ undergrads across all areas in del consulting. It’s a phenomenal school, great culture and lots of fun. If he hasn’t visited yet would suggest a trip.
Eh I think both schools have plenty of alumni in NYC if that’s of interest. But money + direct admission makes this an easy decision. IU absolutely slays for IB too if that’s on the radar too
Kelleyyyyy
Obv IU has a higher ranked business school but it appears UMD has much harder reqs to get into. Didn’t go to either school but as a Maryland local, UMD seems to get some respect here.
IU easily
Wharton
If you’re doing business / journalism - IU. Literally anything else - MD. Also, Kelley is hard to stay in. Their program accepts a ton of people and then weeds them out. Just some things to keep in mind.
Did he get direct admit to Kelley or just into IU? Big difference
Agree with EY1. Both schools are going to primarily recruit regionally. So if he wants to be in Bmore/DC after school, UMD is a much better choice. If he's open to Chicago/Indy/St. Louis then Indiana is probably a better option. Plus Bloomington is far superior to College Park.
IU. Higher ranked, better known, plus your cousin received money.
Maryland is definitely a better all-around school. But since he is doing business, go IU
Indiana local would tell you IU get respect there. IU is also well connected. I am biased because I don’t know much about UMD
Kelley undergrad is amazing. Had an awesome 4 years there
Not something he should even have to decide RN. Where he wants to go/what he wants to do comes later. Like I said, network and name is all that matters at B-school no matter when you do it
IU definitely is the better school, but it depends where they want to end up. Companies hire from IU mostly from the Midwest and from UMD in the dc area.
Agreed, with IU unless he wants to do fed stuff in DC
UMD. The business school is great and there are plenty of students going into Ibanking in nyc as well as those going into consulting
