Had a minor back injury (should heal on its own) but I don’t think sitting in an office chair all day is helping. Any ideas to make it more bearable?

I strongly suggest going to a doctor and getting physical therapy. Backs are poorly constructed, and if you hurt yourself now, it's going to recur. Talk to your firm about getting a standing desk (some desktop ones are pretty inexpensive) and if you have to, just pile some books up and put your keyboard on top so you can get relief from sitting.

Oye this happened to me in the middle of last year. If you’re still working from home make sure you have a good supportive chair and aren’t using a dining chair or some other regular chair. Get up and walk around at least once an hour, even if it’s just down the hallway, or see if you can get a standing desk.

like

Back at the office but yea I’ll have to make time to walk around.

I had a back sprain when I was 29. I had to take 3 days off and just lie down during those days. Came back with an ice pack, learned how to sit straight, and learned to get up and move when I feel my posture slipping. Have to stay vigilant. Very easy to slip back to old habits

like

Can you stand?

Unfortunately no. Back at the office and I can’t really ask for a standing desk. 😕

Standing desk FTW

Standing seems like the obvious answer but what sort of back injury?

Injury is an exaggeration but it is incredibly painful. As embarrassing as it is, I was bending down this morning and had a sharp spasm in my lower back. It’s been hurting since then and quite uncomfortable when sitting and driving. I put some pain relief cream on it. I’m 28 for context so this is a wake up call that I need to get my health and shit together.

Ludes.

Thank you!!

Why can’t you ask for a standing desk? The desk top models are not super expensive - seems like that would be a reasonable accommodation in most cases.

Heating pad is a good idea. I need to buy one.

I’m traveling again for work and while it took me a while to get back into it, I’m almost as efficient as I was pre-Covid. My issue is that when I get home, I am exhausted. It feels like it takes me a day to recover from any travel that is more than an overnight trip. I know travel disrupts sleep and I eat heavier food when I’m on the road, so I’m watching that, but any other tips to not come home feeling like a shell? Or how to bounce back faster?

What healthy diets did you go on? What foods did you cut out/introduce? My naturopath told us both to reduce red meat and dairy.

Hi all. I am licensed in life, accident and health and am looking for new opportunities. I’ve been working in employee benefits in a small brokerage firm on a book of business of over 400 clients, I’m the only account manager. We’ve had 100% employer retention since I’ve been here. I am a high performer, but not sure I’m valued much at all . I want to reach the top and become partner in my career ; this is why I went to work for a small firm. My boss favors others when I do the most work!!

Additional Posts in Law

I am considering switching practice areas. I currently practice in personal injury litigation on the defense side. I have been in the PI practice in some way, shape or form for the last 9 years. However, I think it’s time for a change for me. I have always found trust and estate work to be interesting and would like to transition into that area of practice, on both the litigation and planning end of it. I am looking for guidance as to how to switch over. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just a rant on how absolutely stupid the bar is. The fact that I’ve been a well-regarded attorney for many years now but just because I moved states, I need to provide references for every random volunteer position I had going back to college, plus need 8 personal references who can’t overlap with employment references, all just to be authorized to keep practicing law at the exact same law firm I’ve been at for years, is absolutely insane. Not to mention the fees are over a thousand dollars.
