Has any firm you've worked for had a lock-step compensation system for associates? If so, what's the policy and how does your firm determine what level in the lock-step system an associate starts at?

We have one. We pay cravath scale so as with any lockstep system associate salaries correspond to the associates’ compensation year. Bonus is within a range and depends if evaluation ranking. Compensation year usually correlates to JD year but sometimes is negotiated for laterals, generally by moving them back one or more years based on the nature of their prior experience. For example, lateral litigators coming to us from the NY market usually are much less experienced than their home grown classmates who we trained, so would lose a year or two for comp purposes.

I work in commercial real estate retail leasing. Current employer just increased base to $100k with avg. 20-35% bonus/commissions combined. Received offer to exclusively work for a tenant and help them open new locations. $115k base 10% bonus & also stock options. Remote work, lots of driving, similar job title. Its a VC funded startup & aggressively growing. I’ve never worked for a start up, so curious what everyone’s experiences are and any feedback would be super appreciated thank you!!

Does anyone have a lead on / advice on finding PM positions over $220k/yr? It seems like most positions I’m targeting are closer to $150k and I’m currently at $190+. I’m not sure I qualify for big tech Director level (would be open to and great for startup Director Level)…it seems I’m a great fit for many Sales Ops / GTM PM roles but most I’m finding promote the ~$200k+ people internally and the job reqs are ~IC 4/5. I’ve designed and implemented many successful worldwide programs.
