Has anyone done a reduced schedule after a new baby? If so, how did you structure it? I understand it’s reduced but looking for examples of what a successful reduced schedule looks like

I'm on a 90% reduced schedule where I work 40 hours per week, year-round. I work when my kids are at school/daycare, and I am home for nights and weekends. It lets me avoid the extra hours around our spring & fall tax seasons, except for the occasional extra hours I'll put in if absolutely necessary during a deadline week. It's worked for me since I stick to my hours and proactively communicate with my team if I get assigned too much work.

I think it's harder when reduced schedules have extra days off during the week (like Mondays or Fridays). Clients and colleagues still call or schedule meetings, so you have to be flexible or stand up for your schedule.

When I had my first baby, I did a 60% schedule. I have busy seasons in Aug-Oct and mid-Jan to mid-April, so I did 24 hours/week in the 6 slower months and 32 hours/week in the busier months. During that time, I generally scheduled full days off on my calendar, so I had 1-2 days/week that I didn't need childcare and could stay snuggled up with my baby or go on playdates. I blocked my calendar on those days, but if there was an important meeting that couldn't be moved, I still tried to call in or switch my days (many of my clients had no idea I was part-time). As far as workload, we intentionally gave a certain number of my clients to other managers....it's not possible to do the same amount of work in less time.

As time went on, I've adjusted it a few times. At this point, I'm at 75%, which averages 34 hours/week (more or less depending on the season still). All my kids are in school now, so instead of scheduling whole days off, I work every day, but have the flexibility to pick them up from school, volunteer at school, coach a team, etc. I just block my calendar when I'm not going to be available.

The trick is to keep boundaries, but also be flexible. Now and again, I've still worked a 70+ hour week to meet a deadline, but it's not frequent, and I make sure my annual total is on track (take a lighter week once things slow down). I try to give as much flexibility as I take.

How do you manage the chargeable hours goal, our company allocates the same ratio to total hours but with same holidays learning requirements and slow weeks it feels impossible to catch up.

Hi Fishes,

Need some suggestions from everyone. I have 4.5 years experience and I was working as contractor in ZS and my CTC in parent company was 7 Lakhs.

ZS were willing to offer me FTE as ZS but at a compensation of meagre 8.5 Lakhs. I tried negotiating but they sticked with this.

How come ZS do that? Why can't they pay more as they generally pay 15+ for 4.5 years experience.

I’m my partners only associate and I went on parental leave two weeks ago. I feel horrible for leaving him to handle our cases alone, but am trying to focus on my wife and new baby. That being said, should I still offer to handle minor matters that come in to ease the workload off my boss? He’s been super cool during my entire leave, so I don’t feel pressured to one bit.

I just started a new job 2 months ago, benefits and PTO don’t start until 90 days in so I still have a month before I can take off any time, and today found out my company doesn’t offer paid maternity leave.
I’m really struggling handling the symptoms and maintaining my full time job. Thinking about looking for a part time job to have more time to myself through the pregnancy since I won’t be getting a paid leave anyways, but lost on where to start looking. Any recommendations?

37 weeks today! We are excited :)) the waiting period is weird though. When will baby come???

Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.

I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.

Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.

Should I stay or should I go?

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

My mother-in-law says he’s worked on things, but it’s been 10 years of this and I’m not sure I want such behavior around my wife and our kids since we’re trying to conceive soon (cont).

Stupid Question- We have been thinking for IVF and trying to understand with this process, is there any difference in the health and life of the child as compared to a child born without IVF. I did ask this with our doctor and he said casually its all same. This is not to question any doctor but just to really understand what is going to be different with the kid. This is not very old technology and not much studies as well.

Tomorrow they are requiring masks again and I was almost in tears when I found out. We have been mask free (recommended) since June and I feel like we are being muzzled again. I am vaccinated, frustrated, and have been off of antidepressants since March. I don’t even want to go into work tomorrow. Anything is better than being virtual and I am trying to look at the bright side, but moving backward still burns. We have parent-teacher conferences coming up and I am hoping that it’s temporary.
