My mother filed a discrimination lawsuit in the 90s after finding out that a recently hired male salesperson made more than her (also a salesperson). It took a while, but she won some money. Go after them!
What makes you think that's discrimination?
It’s perfectly reasonable to discuss your concerns with your manager, and to request a salary adjustment. Highlight YOUR contributions, experience, education, etc. Do not base the discussion on his deficiencies. See where it goes.
FYI this is gender discrimination… not sexual. While it sucks- this happens all the time. Male or female. As a FEMALE and former hiring manager there were pay gaps all over my team and it had nothing to do with their genders. I recommend you learn how to have those negations for salary while still employed. If they were begging you to stay- you don’t seem to be treated poorly. Maybe you have less assertiveness than your male colleague?
There are alot of moving pieces. If you no longer work there. Move on. If you were still there. Ask for a raise. What year were you hired what was the going rate for your position then? Was ot 120% less than it is now. Alot of people like to complain that they have been at a company for many years and the person that just walked in the door makes more. The pay for the same job 2 years ago is different from today. Constantly stay up to date on the marketbpay for your job. Every year during reviews come prepared with the current competitive pay and a listing of your projects completed that year. Demand a raise. No company is going to tell a person that has been working for them for 10 years. " hey you're doing a wonderful job. Here's a 200% pay raise since that's the rate we would be forced to hire at if we ever needed to replace you".
I am confused you left the company, and now you are angry they hired a male and paid them more? If that is the situation how could you have a case you left on your own. Typically people who except a counter offer end up leaving shortly after anyway. That could be why they did not go all in with you, but were willing to with someone who never quit.
