No no they're actually more miserable and In my experience the pay can be even worse. Charter schools offer almost no protection for teachers from parents and/or administrators. I think public schools with good union support is about the best you can do in the US
Spot on!!! They might pay you a little more but you’ll never have the benefits you would have in a public school with a strong union. Charter schools have way too much greed at the top and only pretend to take care of people in the trenches.

My best friend worked in a charter school and loved it… until admin turned over, and then it became difficult. When it was managed well, it was amazing. Leadership matters. Do your homework. Learn about the school you are considering. Ask around and make an informed decision. Some charters are great- others are not.
I have worked at both public and charter schools. They both of course have their pros and cons. In my experience, the charter school I worked at had higher pay but less support and the public school I worked at had lower pay but more support. So really you just need to prioritize what is more important for you. Leadership also plays a big role in both environments.
I interviewed for a local one. Didn't get good vibes. Or a job offer. Then heard from one or two who had worked there and migrated over to public school that it was awful. This particular one made teachers go into students homes. I'm sorry, I value my safety more than that, you NEVER know what you're walking into...
It depends on the school. It is good to read the reviews. They can be demanding but there are some that are easier than public schools in less demanding. You really need to read the reviews.
It really depends but the charter school. The charter school I worked at in south Dallas was beyond corrupt.
Typically, pay is worse at charters for teachers but better for administrators, and the level of support, protection, and job security are all lower than public schools.
That's generally true. Possibly you could find one particular charter that's a better place to work than one particular public school. But smart money is always going to bet the other way, so do your homework before agreeing to work at a charter. Probably a bad decision.
Look for an online teaching gig. They (and charter schools of whatever kind) are run by the same educational 'geniuses', but you don't have to deal with much middle school drama. Online it's all about teaching and reaching out to families every ones in a while. You can roll into your office in the morning. No need to dress-to-kill, no driving, no waste on smiles, etc...The pay is not better, but the benefits, including the mental sanity, are priceless. Some online charter schools pay the PERS retirement in your state.
