I haven't made homemade icecream since I was a kid and I actually really miss it. Growing up we had a great big farm and we always made everything ourselves. Icecream was no exception and my mom would make this blackberry sauce with our blackberries, it was divine.

Oh my gosh you need to get this recipe for your mom’s black berry sauce!! And wow growing your own blackberries too??? Amazing
Yes, I have done it with both an ice cream machine and without an ice machine. Without can be fairly tricky because it requires a lot of ice and plastic zip lock bags and a lot of shaking. Making homemade ice cream the old fashioned way goes from being a lot fun to exhausting very quickly. lol, are you looking for tips or recipes?

This is exactly what I think of when I think homemade ice cream😂 being like 7 and shaking a bag of milk with salt and ice with poor results
Yes - I make it a lot but have a big whytner machine with a compressor. Perks are you can use super high quality ingredients (I use 3-4 grade a Tahitian vanilla beans for vanilla ice cream for example, or a jar of Sicilian pistachio paste), but it’s tricky to get the exact texture of a commercial gelato machine.

Ohh how do you know the grades of vanilla?? Do you need to go to a specific store to get it?

Yes. It’s a lot of work, but the upside is you can make a lot of your own flavors. For a hot minute I was doing a lot of floral based ice cream. Jasmine, honeysuckle, orange blossom, lavender etc

More or less. Steep the dried leaves like a tea in the cream or milk then strain. I used to make it with honey and then served it with a honey comb brittle so it had some crunch to it
Yup. “French pot custard style.” Have a simple churn where you freeze the body and set an electric dasher on top. Add inclusions halfway through. Great making homemade ice cream with in-season fruit. Planning on making a rose cordial ice cream sometime. Flavor out of my maritime southeast Asian past.
