I haven't had an opportunity to test that theory, but I have received anecdotal evidence to support that it is going on. I suspect it is just a matter of time before a WFH employee files a class action lawsuit alleging "equal pay for equal work," arguing that the location where the work is accomplished should not be a factor in determining an employee's salary. Right now, companies are using the "supply and demand" model, offering as low a salary as they can get away with.
I haven't noticed this personally, but I'm not too surprised by it. With remote work being so desirable and increasingly harder to find, I'm guessing companies think they can get away with paying less for roles that offer that flexibility.
I haven't seen this, but I figured it was only a matter of time. It still outweighs having to go into work though. I'd love to WFH for the rest of my life lol

They probably justify it as a cost of living type thing - the higher salaries are meant for people in “cities”
I have had three experiences this month. Quite shocking that the ranges posted are just to entice candidates to apply. It seems the ranges are for total comp not just base and some are like, we are not paying new hires anything close to the upper end of the range and these are jobs I’m overqualified for.
It’s also an employer’s job market at the moment. I think all offers are coming in lower, especially if companies are backfilling after massive layoffs
