Has anyone successfully negotiated a sign-on bonus at a new job specifically to cover a repayment clause from their old firm? I’m currently staring at a $15,000 CPA bonus that I’ll have to pay back in full if I quit before August. But I’ve been offered an Assistant Controller role that starts in June, and I’m trying to do the math to see if my mental health is worth the $15k loss. I really want this new role but that is a lot of money to leave behind.

I've been fortunate to be in a high-paying position in the Los Angeles area and I rarely see comparable positions posted. The comparable positions at my company are filled by one of the big executive search firms. So coming up to my 3 years at UK KPMG Audit, and I got an offer from a food delivery tech company (think Ubereats, Deliveroo, Doordash etc) for a performance analyst type role which monitors/reports metrics for the Operations.

I'm interested in tech and thought this was a possible to foot in the door for future financial roles in tech.

Was wondering if anyone has thoughts on such roles or...is it a dead end approach.

How bad does it look to quit without anything lined up? My goal would be to build skills I need to learn in order to pivot to an industry I’m more interested in and to build up my resume. Just wondering if not being employed will kill my employability
