How early is too early to ask for a raise?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I have changed jobs a dozen times in 44 years of work. Various reasons I have found that EVERYTHING is negotiable, but it all depends how much they value you. If a lot, higher salary, signing bonus, extra vacation, Friday afternoons off, I've done it all. . But if they don't, you could be out. Get what you think you deserve BEFORE you accept.
It depends if it’s the salary band or hiring range. If it’s the latter it may be possible
Typically the offer should be competitive, given the market data & internal equity (which should be based on employee years of experience performing the work). If you are a very seasoned candidate, you should expect a higher offer but companies usually don’t like to pay at the max of the range.
