There are free certification classes you can take from Google. Also look for free Microsoft Office certifications you can get. IMO, work experience these days is usually way more valuable than a degree depending on the job of course.
I think the title helps a lot but in many cases you end up working in something that is not your area, so I would not look at the title but how well a person can work.
I recommend that you always learn something and seek to get better. That way you will be able to provide solutions and you will be taken into account regardless of whether you have a degree or not.
Yes. Spent two years packing vegetables while taking courses online. I made sure the owner knew my intent and the office folks would often have me come in as backup if needed. Eventually was hired for the office full time.
Yes. When I worked at Ryder actually. Went from hourly to salary by jumping on every project I could. Making myself available to any department, stayed after hours with the salaried staff to learn the system and help resolve product issues. I'm not sure what your current role is but even at a floor level position you'll have some opportunities to stand out to your leadership team. Look for those chances or even ask for them, be proactive. Getting to a clerk role would be ideal, or a lead position. Those roles will give you more access the your WMS and allow you to dig deeper into problem resolution/root cause etc.
The more knowledgeable you become, the more your peers will look up to you and come to you for help. Your leadership will notice that. They'll know..
A. You know your facilities systems and process.
B. You have a mind for problem solving.
C. You have the respect of your peers.
All 3 are great leadership qualities and are a good foundation to build on.
