Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?

Q for HR folks! For companies who have offices in US and Canada, how easy would it be for American HR team to set up a role & compensation via the Canadian office for a Canadian remote worker? Would be a lot of work? But i know companies like Meta and Spotify do do this.

I'm Canadian and applied to a US remote role. Canadians don't need a visa for this. One of the ways would be to use Canadian entity's hr/payroll services. They showed keen interested but waned since finding out I'm Canadian.

Growing up was rough. On my 8th birthday my dad had an accident that led to this death a few days later. He was a good man who took care of us all (I had 3 siblings now 2; lost 1 few years ago). Dad passed away 2 months ago. I traveled to India and stayed for 2 months, dealt with significant red tape to close his cards, loans, transfer pensions, etc. A succession certificate is WIP for one of his accounts, so mom decided to stay back until it’s done. How long does it take for you all to commute to work normally? I am moving to Woking soon and am looking to land a consulting gig in London. It will take me 10-20 min to get to the train station, and from then on the train to Waterloo takes 30 mins. Not sure if that’s going to be too long a daily commute by UK standard?

Any suggestion on relatively cheap neighbourhood for a mid 20s couple in london? - - Preferably less than 30 mins commute to Green Park/ bloomsbury/ holborn area.
- Would prefer not to have to worry about being stabbed on the street.
- balcony or a garden would be nice
- dont care about schools etc, wont have kids for a while
