What if everyone woke up and adopted this mentality? They can’t fire us all 😂
But this lone wolf gonna get fired

No sharepoint, we use teams but can’t share files on it, only for IMs and calls. An MD has to approve and pay out of the group’s budget for us to even create a channel in teams. The DMV probably uses better technology than us

Assuming you’re a salaried professional (which most consultants are) you’re not getting paid for 40 hours, you’re getting paid for getting the work done — which takes as long as it takes. Your colleague is going to get fired in a hurry when things get busier.
Pretty funny the idea that if work can’t be done by 5pm is bad management…😂😂😂 welcome to client services
I mean I’m confused…. I see no lies in what he is saying 🤣 I have always put myself in a position that pays OT or I’m not working OT bc I’m not a dog to the system. I will put my time in, but I also will get paid for it and that’s a non negotiable. More people should adopt that mentality so we can all be treated fairly
Just because they give you a heads up or are kind enough to let you know like hey this role will require additional hours and your still only going to get paid X amount of money, doesn’t mean it’s not over time ☠️ that just means your getting played.
In this case I would say don’t hate the player hate the game, and maybe start playing a little smarter yourself!!
By the time I break down my salary / all the extra hours I make like $20 mine as well work at Walmart. kidding we have benefits but ya I get his sentiment it’s fracked
But you are a good boss, you understand when there’s slow times or not, my boss doesn’t care if it’s slow or fast, she’ll want me to work 40+ every week. I also put the boundary
I think if the project has high demands and your colleague is not pulling their weight, then yes, that is a problem. It’s not a problem when the workload is manageable within a typical 40 hour week. Would recommend pulling them aside to discuss expectations before leadership gives them the boot
If he generally completes things in time and generally does good work I have no issues with this. But if he is not flexible in some situations when I need him I will remove him from my project very fast
My thought is, you are way outside the scope of your role. You said colleague. His hours or work output are not your responsibility to manage. That’s why we have managers and we don’t leave it to colleagues to manage each other. A manager would look at his work quality, output and manage that expectation.
My thought would be, is this person getting all their work done and meeting their deadlines? If so I don’t see the harm in maintaining a W/L balance. If they can get 60 hours of work done in 40 then good for them. If not, their going to have a rough time when things get busy and their scope of work explodes with tight deadlines

They better have something else going for them if they want to be done at 5, or they better be starting at 7.
I think with that attitude they’ll stay junior….
With that attitude better hope they’re never caught goofing off at work with their strict “on the clock” persona
My contract says I’m legally obligated to work 40hrs and any time over that is overtime, so… I’ll make the personal choice to continue working past 5 if it means high quality delivery, but I’m in vocal opposition of the culture I believe this post attempts to contribute to. You did not sign your life away to some company for x amount of dollars. They do not own your soul. You can find another job. It’s not a “huge issue” that you log off when you’re supposed to. It’s not even an “issue”, as OP implies. But we have so many hustle culture fanatics out here acting like doing exactly the right amount as is clearly outlined is somehow lazy or lacking in virtue. Kick rocks, forreal. You’re saying you believe our pay reflects expectations is a personally held belief. Your contract and that of your colleague may not be similar at all. You might be expected to work past 40, and they may not. You’re just making assumptions, pocket watching and judging. I really wish you wouldn’t.
If you think 40 hours means 40 hours just cuz that’s what the contract says, you are in the wrong line of work, simple as 🤷♂️ you are really acting dense if you think this is just OP’s personal opinion problem. And if you think the reality of client services is”selling your soul” again, wrong line of work, and the sooner you wake up to that the happier you’ll be
