Have you checked rent/house prices? California is extremely expensive with lots of taxes. May not be worth it. I would do some research. On the other hand it’s a beautiful state.
In the district that I am in in California my medical insurance is free. My dental insurance is free. My vision insurance is free. There’s a 5 year vesting period for pension. And the coolest thing ever is that I put about 9% of my salary towards my pension and the district puts in almost twice what I put in. After 1 year there’s about $32,000 in my account. After 5 years it’s vested. So, there could be $50,000 of my money and 100,000 from the district which is vested!

CA is very nice, but so is CO. Compare cost of living. That raise might end up being a pay cut in spending power.
If it turns out to be, at worst, a wash in terms of pay, I'd go. In California, you've got a lot of what I like about CO, PLUS the ocean. But be sure to make an informed decision.
Do you have family in Denver? Or is it just you? If I was by myself and didn't have a mortgage or kids I would take the money honestly. Especially if the benefits are better.
California might pay more, but it is MUCH more expensive. If you are happy where you are, it might be a big mistake to move as there are no guarantees. I love Colorado, but moved away from Denver as there were too many people. Good luck in whatever you do.
Here comes the "high tax rate in CA" speak. I looked up online the tax rates by state (overall tax burden) when you account for all the different types. CA was 10.4% and CO was 8.42. So there you go. Nobody will talk about how the states below all have higher percentages than CA because it's really fun to pick on CA. All of these are higher: New York, Hawaii, Vermont, and Maine. Illinois is marginally lower than CA (9.67), but for that small different, you have to put up with tons of snow and tons of heat and humidity over CA.
Yep. But the OP might find that the cost of living is higher by a greater percentage than the pay, so even a "higher" salary has less buying power. And it's by no means bashing CA to point out that possibility.
It’s very expensive to live here. I moved from a school on the East Coast because I was old enough to collect my 20 year pension and have a job paying more than I made in my previous school. My pension is about half my current paycheck
Lived in California for years and loved it. Cost of living is outrageously expensive
I agree. It’s a lot more expensive and crowded
