Have you ever successfully negotiated anything other than salary during a job search? I was able to get an extra week of vacation in one job.

I negotiated after starting the job. Flexibility means everything to me, so I negotiated the option to work from home four days a week. I made a document outlining all my tasks and noted which ones actually required me to be in the office (none of them). Then I put together a quick PowerPoint showing my commute time and how I stay productive at home. I explained that being home helps me focus and recharge, and I go in mostly to collaborate with teammates, so once a week was more than enough.

I've negotiated extra PTO multiple times as well. The most I've ever received was an additional two weeks. I push for it every time.

That would actually be amazing 1 extra week!

I'm so impressed by everyone here. I never even thought of negotiating these things. Do employers usually budge on this sort of thing or is it more hit and miss? I get nervous enough just asking for a 5K bump.

I got shot down trying to negotiate for more vacation time. I was told the amounts of PTO were in the company policy manual and they couldn't be changed. I assume they were thinking that if they changed something for one person that would be obvious and visible to others it would cause problems.

I wish! It never occurs to me that I can try to negotiate for things beyond my salary. Maybe someday I’ll be able to give this a try.

Does anyone know the average salary for a senior consultant in finance with 5 years work experience in the LA area?

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.
