Hello everyone! I just finished my undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, majoring in Finance with a 3.6 GPA. As an international student, I’m trying find an investment banking or related field internship or full time job.
I only have some experience in small companies such as a fund lending company, and I found it extremely difficult to networking with others in this small city. The only thing I received from all my applications was rejection. Are there any advices?

Have you talked to the career center? What have they said? The ceo of Jeffries is an alum of UofR they prob hire some students. They prob can get you some people to talk to? IB is going to be hard to get into off cycle

Tell them to give you some names. Basically half of their job. Say Hi looking to get IB can you provide me with a list of alums that have showed an interest in talking to new grads.

Agree with speaking with the career center. There were some big headquarters there when I graduated near Rochester. It might not be investment banking since you are not in the city. Are you also needing sponsorship as well?

I know, it’s relatively difficult. Anyway, thank you for your reply. You have a nice day.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get into real estate investing. Some of the books I've read have talked about buying a multi unit property and utilizing investors to get the necessary capital. Does anyone have experience in getting investors? How do you identify investors who may be interested? Are there any sites where you can invest in or post investment opportunities?
Thank you in advance.

Additional Posts in Jobs in Finance

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!

I have been approached with an opportunity at JP Morgan Chase for their private client advisor role. The book is about 30M all in. I am currently an experienced hybrid asset manager wholesaler and have experience in advising as well. Curious about the opportunity with JPM and if it’s worth it. I currently make about 160k and if JPM would give me a high draw for the first 3 years to build, and if it’s feasible to sustain that 160+ there.
