No tips, but speed seems to have become the only valued quality of employees these days. Nobody wants good work, they want “good enough” work as fast as possible. I feel like I’ve aged out of the business but still have 15 years until social security and Medicare so I’m freaked out… I can only go a little faster before quality suffers and then my own spirits fall. I’ll be watching for meaningful advice. Thanks for posting this.

I’m in the same boat. I had a late start in this career and I’m in my early 50s with still a long way to go until I can retire. I’m older than most of my coworkers and the level of energy to keep up is not there.

Preach! I started right out of college… keeping up was no problem all the way up thru my mid 40s. In fact I moved so fast people said they couldn’t keep up with me. But then I realized that some of my gut instincts, or first impressions, were maybe not the best so I slowed down to ponder my thoughts, think them through, and get extra context to make sure I’m creating sound strategy. That lasted one year and for the last 6 years I’m too slow. Further… now so much silly jargon is being used, people talk without saying a thing! I ask for clarification and they look at me like I have six heads.
I think it is time for me to die, or exit into another line of work. But this is all I’ve done for 28 years.
While at Boeing above a drafters desk I saw a slogan and took it as my own. Good, fast, cheap, you only get two...
Blame decades of poor client management.
I work in a creative environment. Clients procrastinate and then expect you to rush to meet their unrealistic deadlines. And mgmt seldom supports the employees and instead accommodates the clients. My team and I feel unappreciated, as we are understaffed and often work OT to get the work done. I work quickly and efficiently, but my stress level is through the roof most days dealing with this nonsense.
