May not be possible anymore but would you be able to negotiate the hourly rate instead of the extra bonus?
Also I would look into how many RXs per day does the pharmacy do, is there a drive through, are you an exempt or non exempt employee… things like that
Also my friend took that type of bonus in NorCal with a rival company in a very remote area. He said there were around 3 hours each day where he didn’t even have a tech and did everything by himself. So make sure the store can get staffing with techs and such
These are really good points! I will try to negotiate the salary instead of the bonus. I wasn't expecting the manager to talk numbers during the interview and I was caught off-guard when he did. But I'm going to try negotiating the salary instead of the bonus for sure.
Thank you for your tips!!
do not do anything with the sign on bonus until your 2 years are up. the working conditions there are horrible and you’re likely going to a severely understaffed or difficult store. don’t get trapped where you can’t pay back the sign on bonus if it’s too much.
and salary is better than a sign on bonus. ask for $10 more per hour. they are desperate at this point
I agree. The bonuses alone should tell people that they are in need. Go for $65 minimum
You have to stay with them for the entire 2 yrs? Honestly with the sign on bonus it sounds like a good deal. Then your hourly should go up every year.
So I have heard much worse for a starting salary. In 2019 they were offering $55 an hour for new grads. I took that deal and after working 2 years I went on to home infusion and ended with ~$58 dollars an hour. I currently am salary making about 10k more yearly. But that bonus is pretty good and you can use it to get experience and get your foot in the door and leave after the 2 years are up
Can I ask where this is ? This sign on bonus is great but the hourly wage is kind of low unless you are in a LCOL area
Same thoughts here, the hourly wage is low, but I'm a new grad and it didn't seem negotiable. The area is in Augusta, GA
$55/hr not enough. Ask for more $65/hr would be a good base. I can tell you at $55 /hr you won’t be getting annual increases bc your be capped out.
I probably would have negotiated a larger hourly rate vs bonus. New grads taking bonuses won't help push your salaries up. Go for higher hourly rate vs bonuses.

The hourly seems low, but if you plan to only stay the 2 years the bonus makes up for it. But the real question is how bad is the staffing that they’re offering that much of a bonus?
If you're working in CA, seek a higher hourly rate rather than a sign on bonus with a minimum 4% hourly increase each year without any minimum number of years to commit (if possible). You'll be understaffed and overworked often, depending if staff vs PIC. If you seek a sign on bonus, then you're committed to the number of years before you'll get the bonus $. Also, $65 is the going rate in Central Valley, unsure in Bay Area and SoCal. Hope this helps.
