Hello everyone,

Looking for some help here. I am being propositioned with a private client advisor role at JPM however I feel as though my skill set is more in line with a private banker role. The PCA role advises clients in the mass affluent space (under $1MM) but I currently worth with clients on planning and wealth management in the HNW and UHNW space ($1MM+ & $10MM+). I feel like a PCA role would be a step backward in my career and compensation. Thoughts???

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question.

Are there any other sweeteners from JPM that would make this worth your while? You can push them and see what they say.

I served with JP Morgan over eight years including in Metropolitan Banking, Private Investment Management, and HR. As said well enough by others and by you, you grasp well enough that you are being asked to work in more of a mass downscale roll. It is not personal, but it is not a clear move up; you risk someone evaluating your career progression and perceiving this in a way that is not an advancement:

* not in title or functional responsinility * not in operating department,
* scale of dollar impact (revenue, assets, operating profit, scale and commitment to the addressible market,
* opportunity for promotion, advancement or supervision
* downside protection
* alignment with an executive recognized as candidate for executive advancement
* executive development
* regional or foreign office prestige

The questions that linger in my mind pertaining to your situation relate to why this specific opportunity is available and for how long, how many officers have toured through this department, and among those who left where did they go?

Can you have a discrete conversation with greater intelligence about that state of the business, and whether your candidacy is transaction to fill a requisition or is it grounded in a trustworthy career level relationship?

JPM PB is $5mm+ for HNW and $25mm for UHNW. We generally want experienced hires if you are not coming from post grad

I went to a T14 law school, got great grades and glowing recommendations, and wrote (what I thought was) a great writing sample. But I got rejected from all 70 federal clerkships I applied to. The only thing I can think of is: I took a non traditional route after law school and did a 2 year public interest fellowship in a niche field of administrative law. The rejection gave me a lot of self hatred. I still really want to clerk. Any advice? What is wrong with me? I feel like a failure.

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.
