Hello, I am currently out of work and have been looking for months for a job. I’m at my wits-end and I have no idea what to do. I have applied at so many firms for intake positions and it just never falls through. I am beyond stressed and I feel so extremely exhausted mentally and discouraged. I’m smart, I will do the work and I love learning. I have no idea what it is I’m doing wrong. This has never happened to me before and I feel so lost rn…

The market is pretty hard right now for many people. Are you branching out into other industries or even in positions? Intake positions can be transferable in many admin roles so if you haven’t, broaden the search. Wish I could help you with a lead but we’re on a hiring freeze at my company and have zero support staff for legal anyway.

But to illustrate one of my prior law firm’s intake support employees went to be an executive’s admin at a big tech brand and she is thriving!

You're not alone. I believe it's the employers who want young people who have very little experience and pay them less to retain them and train them to except the ceiling.

Meanwhile they enrich themselves and enjoy the fruits of their young laborers. They even do the same with young attorneys that want practice experience.

Hang in there. The right door will open for you.

What's your background?

I’ve mainly worked for Personal injury attorneys, I have also worked for a criminal defense attorney. I’ve got experience in Neos-Needles and MyCase software. I’m available anytime. I don’t mind working weekends, kids are grown, I’m actually a workaholic when employed. But if there’s something that I don’t know I am a very fast learner.

I'm currently reading Career Coach GPT and it is a walk through on how to leverage AI to help in job searching. It is a step by step manual with instructions on how to navigate LinkedIn, how to generate a resume that is is ATS friendly, and many other things. It's the first thing I've come across that is actually helpfull .

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

7 year lawyer here. Been with the same big national firm all 7 years (not BigLaw) doing complex litigation. Been working remote a long time due to moving around for wife’s job. As a result of the moving was bumped off partner track. I’m looking at a great small firm that will be a practice change (but still litigation). I’m told they’re looking for someone with less experience and they’re skeptical because of my experience. It’s frustrating. How do I overcome this?

How do you approach a firm recruiting you when you weren't looking to move? It would be similar work, but I could negotiate a significant salary boost which would help my family reach financial goals faster. I like everything about my firm, but the pay is on the low side. I've never interviewed when I wasn't eager to leave my current job, and I'm uncertain how to discuss that with the recruiter & interviewer. I want to leverage it, but don't want to sound greedy.
