Raleigh/Durham is 2.5 hours from Charlotte, so this may not be the right bowl.
In Durham, a highly educated and diverse community. Many years ago, I heard there were more doctors per capita than anywhere else on the globe. I’m sure that is counting both PhD and medical physicians. Duke has people from all over the world; same with the biotech and technology companies. When my kids were in elementary school, there were over 20 languages spoken at home.
Raleigh/Durham is a healthcare hub, so while you referenced Charlotte (a totally separate metro area hours away), I would encourage you to look for positions with Duke Health System, UNC Healthcare, and WakeMed.
This area is incredibly diverse (as is Charlotte, to be fair), to your second question. We’re white, but my kids are so used to a very diverse population that they were shocked when looking at some colleges not to see the same diversity on different campuses as they were used to in their classrooms. You would have no issues at all from that perspective.
