Hello, I am seeking advice on how to break into IP Law. Every opening I see asks for 5 years of experience or more in IP. I currently work in workers' compensation law and would like to branch out into other fields. I am unsure how to do so when many job openings require years of experience to get an interview. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Where are you located? The firm I work for hires people without experience and trains them.

Does your firm employ remote/virtual employees? Thanks in advance!

Do what you can to make the move sooner than later. The longer you are in one type of law the harder it is to switch (and actually market your experience). Corporate and contract law are good IP-adjacent areas to transition into. If you're going into a firm, you may be able to talk an employer into hiring you and training you on the law (not fun, but other duties like office stuff while you learn)

Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?

I’m getting messages from recruiters for Sr. Corporate Paralegal roles but all of my experience is in litigation. I have 6 years experience as a paralegal. Should I move forward with this? Not sure if I’m qualified.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Hi all, anyone familiar with Skadden in DC? Looking for any insight!

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.
