Hello, I am working on a degree in Occupational Health and Safety. I am looking at two possible jobs to start in the next few months, one in construction and the other managing a coffee shop. I want to use my degree to either be a safety leader in a power plant or manufacturing plant or be an OSHA trainer. Based on my prospects and goals, which do you think would be the better current job option? They are in two completely different parts of the US, so doing both is not an option.

Has anyone had experience pivoting w/ a nontechnical background to a big tech company? Before taking this jump I want to know how is the career growth in IT Hardware, how is the promotion structure in such companies. I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $400k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

Salary check. I am currently an in house attorney. 12 YOE. Large company with great coworkers doing regulatory work for the insurance industry. Good work life balance. I live in a high COL city. Out of curiosity and to test the market, I interviewed at a FAANG. Did not get the job, but found out TC was 350k, significantly higher than my TC 230k. I thought I was compensated fairly, but would love to see your thoughts.

As a first time PM at a company with no PM structure, I’m finding it difficult to learn good practices and bring myself to “the next level”. Has anyone here had a similar self taught start that made the break through to become a solid senior PM? Anything will help, books, etc.

How do you count years of experience? Lets say you were a web master for 5 years. Then you transitioned into a proper UX role and did that for 5 years. Is that 10 years of experience or 5?

One key mistake I made while trying to get into PM was to tailor my resume bullet points towards *proving* I was a PM (I did user research! I defined the product vision!) vs. explaining what exactly I did. More lessons learned / tips and tricks 🔗 below.

How do you handle billing disputes? Already feel like we’re a steal compared to other firms, but it’s the pits when clients kvetch about the bill after working hard on their matters. For five figure disputes, anyone recommend collections? Don’t really want to institute retainers, especially since it doesn’t seem common for our practice area.
