Certifications, for me, have proven to only be worth the investment (time, money, etc.) if you are already working for an employer that provides additional benefits (salary, promotion, etc.) for you obtaining them.
If you are being paid while obtaining them or they are free then I would recommend always getting them if they align with your career goals.
So in your case then, how were you introduced to the IT world? Have you done education, or some form of online courses?
It depends. You get some knowledge but the certificates don't guarantee you employment opportunities immediately. But it's still a good start to have certificates, no knowledge lost. IT is quite vast so it's important to have a direction. If you really need certifications, I'd recommend getting industry standard certifications like CompTIA. Start with ComTIA A+ then work your way up. Hands on experience is also important. Good luck.
