Anyway, my advice would be to check the PMI website and see if they have a downloadable copy of the PMBOK (they probably do, SHRM has its own and they make it free for everyone). Also, make sure you sharpen your MS Project and MS Visio skills as you will be expected to know how to pull together swimlanes and integrated master schedules. Finally, think about the times where you’ve helped managed an entire cycle of deliverables or specific deployment and line up some anecdotes to share about this.
PMBOK (looked that up for ya): https://www.pmi.org/pmbok-guide-standards/foundational/pmbok
A1’s advice is good, though that'll cover the project management oversight parts of the program manager's job. Program mgmt is just that plus setting up controls to make sure each project is running smoothly, governance, etc. But that's in PMBOK too. Good luck
A1, Funny that you say that. I'm being pigeonholed into learning roles and I don't want to be. I do like the skills I'm gaining in the planning part of this but can't stand the monotonous content development. I'd love to chat fishbowlfish11@gmail.com
OP, sent you a long email last night 😂
A1, you're the best! Thank you so much 😊
OP Why would you leave the fascinating world of human capital for the sake of a PMO role? 😭
Thank you!! I hate to leave, but can't do the lifestyle and I keep getting pigeonholed into things I've found I hate. Maybe one day I'll boomerang!
OP Pigeonholed into Human Capital roles? I went from PMO to Human Capital (specifically learning and development), and I like the skills that I’m acquiring. Drop a burner if you would like to chat more. Good luck!
