Hey all, first time poster here. My situation is generally that for the past 6 years I built up what was a fairly successful practice in New Jersey that was completely decimated by COVID-19 restrictions. I'm tired of the consumer practice game and want to move into an adjacent field/not be in an attorney role. Ideally looking for something as an employee (starting a family and need some semblance of salary stability for their sake).
Any advice? In Jersey City, so open to NYC-centric ideas.

I usually don’t celebrate my birthday, but I’m turning 40😅 and feel like I need to do something by inviting people I know. I think it will be a small group, maybe 10 at most. I’m thinking I’d like to do a nice dinner, but don’t want it to be expensive for people. So I’m leaning towards a happy hour on Friday, maybe get some appetizers for the group and then everyone pays for their drinks. Do you girls think it is a good option for the group? What’s the “etiquette” for this sort of celebration?

Additional Posts in Law Exit Opportunities

Recently decided I want to leave big law this year. I would prefer to go in-house, but would be open to government or mid-sized. That said, I am struggling to network in DC as I have worked in Dallas until February (same firm, but moved here because my fiancée got a job here). I’ve been doing corporate/M&A for 2.5 years. Any suggestions on networking in a new city (or specifically DC)?
