Two diff questions, but posting together :
1. Anyone still positive about Chinese ETFs long term? They are down significantly but I'm wary
2. IG Bond ETFs - would you invest in the current market for long term hold? Why/why not? Which one do you recommend looking into?

I bought into Chinese govt. held entities, like Petrochina. I’m cautious about the private ones even though they are cheap.

IG bonds theoretically rise faster than stocks at the point economic recovery starts and hasn’t gained momentum yet, but of late, they’ve been behaving like stocks. I tried a couple of times when the outlook improved during the pandemic, it just isn’t working. If you want JNK and IShares IBOXX are the better known ones.

Ofc, DYOR, not financial advise!

Also, if you see, most Chinese ETFs have Alibaba, Tencent, JD as top holdings, all of which fell out of favor with the govt

There was a leaked government email showing they were actively encouraging public Chinese entities to use govt backed cloud providers instead of private like Alibaba. Seems govt is falling out more and more. What do you reckon the future could hold for it in 10 yrs?

Anyone made the transition from NYC to Austin?

I find myself asking why I am in NYC when everything is so damn expensive. Making good money, but limited on savings and quality of life due to the HCOL. Or recs for other cities for that matter.

Anyone feels like they are earning more, spending more and worrying more?

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?

27, paid off car, student loans left is $18.5k, investments at $22.3k, trying to go to grad school PT by next summer. employer willing to pay $5.5k/yearly, would take me 2.3ish years to complete, projected price would be $23k after tuition reimbursement. what’s the best way to pay through school, i feel like it doesn’t make sense to put money into a 529 if i plan to withdraw so soon? thoughts were max out my 403B, show an AGI of 70K and get low cost student loans out? does this make sense to do?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
