Hi Fishes
I want to share very bad experience I had at Mastercard
I was given offer by Mastercard in month of Dec The hike was less but looking at brand & other perks I accepted the offer & was looking forward to joining them.I got few offers & I went back to them for sole purpose of renegotiating CTC, to have a industry standard hike. They didn't reverted back for 2-3 days & just dropped a mail that they are revoking initial offer as well on grounds that they didn't like i gave other interview

A year of experience is a year of experience. You aren’t finding any articles because that’s dumb.
If they think you can do the job, you should be paid market rate for the job. That is what you need to sell them. If they don’t agree, you’re better off going elsewhere because they are going to continue to nickel and dime later.
In reality - very few. But the way people talk on here, anyone who is anyone
Good Lord...who is working 75 hours a week??
The idea that our years of experience are any better than those of someone in a non-consulting role is ridiculous. You should definitely bring that up to them though so they realize what a pompous ass you are and rescind their offer... typical millennial “I’m a special snowflake” bs...
Also think this is BS since regardless of the experience of other candidates they’re offering me the role so obviously I have something else that’s more desirable that I should be comped for.
So versus industry the two main data justifications are comp CAGR and hour worked, both of which 150% is normally a sensible benchmark for reference. If you’ve done 10 years at 75 hours / week then you’ve done as much from an hours perspective as someone who has done 15 years at 50, and I bet you’ve done more with each hour
Keep in mind too that start ups generally pay less in straight salary.
Take it from someone who has lived the startup life before ... you’ll have more fun and learn more everyday at a startup than anywhere else, including consulting. I would jump ship and take a hefty pay cut to work at a startup opportunity again.
Walk away. Do you think they are going to pile less responsibility on your as a consideration of your lesser experience?
good sources I can cite specifying 1 yr in consulting generally is equivalent to 1.5-2 in industry to counter this claim? I’ve heard this cited before but having trouble finding a reliable article that actually states that. Anything anyone might have seen prior or can contribute would be much appreciated!!
OP, here’s a link to the book: https://www.amazon.com/Consulting-Essentials-Science-People-Frameworks-ebook/dp/B079Q8QF1Y
“ consulting essentials “ 😂
SC1, I met the guy who wrote that book back in college when I was going through recruiting :) still connected with him on Linkedin, good guy!
Yep back at IU! :)
OP, how many years of experience do you have? And what’s your current position?
A2, I beg to differ, here’s an excerpt from a book I’ve been reading recently.
I do agree with the second part of your comment though, A2 😊
It's a negotiation. I would call their bluff, and walk away. If they wanted you they will call.
Yeah, just try quoting from a book about consulting essentials. Hahaha. Your lack of experience is showing. That's not how salary negotiations work, nor have I ever seen a recruiter or hiring leader consider yrs in consulting any differently. (I've been in a startup, industry, and consulting.) Do your research to see what similar positions pay, consider what you'd take, counter, and see what happens. If they budge, great. If they don't, you know their limit and make a decision.
