Hey. I was wondering, what are some jobs that you wouldn't take on the basis that you don't feel it's ethical? For me, I just would never work for a defense contractor or anything to do with the FBI, CIA, etc. I also don't ever plan on being a manager.

I'm working on skills to reposition myself from a branch of tech where certifications are mandatory and required to even interview into DevOps or software development. I'm currently taking some online classes in Jenkins, docker, python. I've found a few certifications you can test for. I'd love to be able to go into a mid level position vs Jr in the next few years. A) Are these types of certs helpful or useless? B) what skills differentiate Jr and mid level positions?

I need a change so badly I’m on the verge of tears almost every day. I’ve invested so much preparing for this career. I know I have so much talent that’s not being utilized. I feel stifled and stuck. Does industry have billable hours? At the big 4, we are required to work a certain number of hours each week and if we spend too much time on anything we are questioned on why it took so long. Is that a thing when you go in industry?

I’m seriously contemplating taking a software development boot camp. For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I noticed the universities are a bit more expensive but is it worth the price to have a university on your resume or does it not really matter?

WFH Vs WF Office Vs Hybrid, Which one should you take?
If you are fresher, go for a WF Office setup. You will learn things beyond your work. In the initial phase of of your career, one needs to focus more on learning than on comfort. The interactions at office, meeting with collegues, conversations at the cafeteria, sense of responsibilty, the need to walk up on time to reach office etc will shape you for better.

Once you have a work experience of few year then any setup is fine. Go for WFH.

I would suggest having a thread or threads about defending socialism against capitalism. In the real world anti-socialist ideas/arguments are made all the time and for those lessed versed in socialist thought, it can be hard to defend one's position and perhaps even be persuaded bythe capitalists. It's pretty weird to see how terrified people in the US get about the "threat to society" that socialism poses while ignoring the fascism that is *already here*.

I know you don't want another USSR, neither do I. I also don't want another Nazi Germany, so stop voting fascists into our government. The closest we have to socialists in Congress are people like Bernie, who's not starting a revolution. Meanwhile almost all of the R's in the Senate are against a bill that would prevent another coup.
