First-year 5th grade teacher here. Once I am able to get in my classroom, I will only have 2 weeks to get ready. Any advice on what I can do to prep before getting into my room would be appreciated.
Hi All! I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy. I am hosting a free workshop for teachers that I thought might benefit you. The workshop is called From Unsettled to Prepared Classroom. I am giving you the tools you need to feel organized and ready for this upcoming school year. There is so much that is still uncertain and it can be super daunting to start to plan for a year like this one. You can sign up here: https://adva-hanan.mykajabi.com/pl/192080
Working through Google's Certified Coaching program and reading Jennie Magiera's book, Courageous Edventures: Navigating Obstacles to Discover Classroom Innovation. Wow! Where has this been all my life?! Perhaps some ideas won't work, but Chapter 10 is full of incredible and transformative ideas!
Do you have a place where you're able to lock up your stuff in your classroom? I don't and I'm not sure if I should make a big deal about it.
My daughter just attended a new teacher workshop at a ROE. A Superintendent presented (not hers) and told this room full of new teachers, “Real teachers get to school at 7:00 am and go home at 8:00 pm.” Really?? As a veteran teacher of 26 years, I was appalled! Makes sense why new teachers are leaving the classroom in their first five years and why we have a teacher shortage in Illinois with those type of expectations.
What classroom management tips do you have for a nontraditional 3rd year teacher? I teach middle schoolers science. Looking for new techniques that will help me make year 4 a lot better than the previous years.
In case you never got to see the New York Times article about air quality in classrooms, I’m posting it here for you. It makes some very important points about creating the safest possible environment for students and teachers. 1. Open windows if it all possible 2. Place air purifier centrally 3. Don’t place fans in a way where the air is pointed at people Have a great year and keep yourself and your students safe! https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/02/26/science/reopen-schools-safety-ventilation.html

What does a principal do all day? My principal seems to sit in her office a lot and looks busy, but I'm really not sure with what and I wish she would come into my classroom.
Hi I am a new teacher intern hired yesterday. I will be teaching second grade. School reopens on Aug 17. I do not have my own materials. I do not know what materials are there in my classroom. What should I buy? I will be talking to the Principal on Monday to find out more. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. Any tips and suggestions for me would be helpful.

Has anyone hacked the hirevue interview algorithm? I'm about to do one for a lateral role.
Google contacted me via LI about a strategy and operations role. I saw on LI that of my 30 business school friends who work at Google, 0 are in S&O. Why do you think this is the case? It could be random chance, but is S&O low paid, or otherwise unattractive for MBA grads for a different reason? 🤔
A young me attended my first THREE interviews in a full suit. I still cringe thinking back about them. However, I’m pretty glad those agencies didn’t hire me.
Just started at big4 as experienced hire, team cannot train me because no one has experience with the client due to scheduling issues, and industry is exactly the opposite of what I was told I’d be gaining exposure to in my interview (the only reason I accepted this offer). Can I request a switch? I have never regret accepting an offer more to be honest.
Hi 🐠 looking for guidance : if you have enough saved up for a down payment, would you buy a home in the US to avoid rent and rather pay mortgage? Or is it not advisable to buy a home on h1b and should rather invest in the market ? Thank you
I have got offer from wipro ...I have been selected in bulk hiring..... And HR said that you will be on bench for 2 weeks and then you will be given option to select project. How do you make snowboarding trips more affordable? First timer and can drive to mammoth/lake tahoe so that saves on airfare, but b/w just the 2.5hr lesson, gear rental, clothing rental, and 3 day lift tickets, that’s $1000 alone. I wanna do it before my body can’t handle an activity like that (I have patellar tendonitis, herniated disc) but man, this trip is costing more than half of what I predict one of our Euro trips next year will cost. No wonder I never went growing up 😔
How long does EY typically take to get back to external FDD recruits? They reached out to me a few weeks ago and I agreed to interview. Had my interviews 3 days ago and haven’t heard from anyone. I currently have FDD offers from two other firms, so considering just going ahead and taking one of those.

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..
