Finding career fulfillment is important, but Is joy what we should expect from our work? The joy of the Lord is our strength. Our work, through integrity in action and thought, as well as creativity honors God. I often go to Phillipians 4:11-13 for reinforcement to be content in the circumstances I am in. Being content doesn’t mean that you don’t act when opportunities arise (actively sought or not). I have no doubt that God will use the pedigree you have to honor him in work that you can’t even imagine at this moment
Thank you
You’re absolutely right about joy and contentment.
I’m definitely reflecting on this thought.
Are there opportunities to volunteer or do side hustle jobs within broadcast field to add to your portfolio? Also, sometimes, we are focused on our plans so much that we ignore what God is asking from us. I suggest asking Him to reveal what His plan is for you, and give you the courage and heart to accept it because we know His plan is best.
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. I would suggest reworking your book to show the type of work you'd like to do. Try to add some fresh TV/digital videos if you can. Find freelance gigs to help with this or shoot something yourself with the help of a few friends. Link some of the work to your LinkedIn if need be. Good luck! You can do this.
Thanks for the suggestions. My book needs an overhaul for sure.
Have you considered smaller agencies? I see you're at FCB and while I worked at a smaller agency I didn't necessarily make broadcast very often ( literally 3 times) but I made an awful lot for brand and campaign videos as well as social video ads, which are akin to today's broadcast. I found a lot of joy in those things and I think perhaps you might too. I've also noticed smaller agency doesn't always mean smaller pay. Pray on it and explore those options. It's also possible to be very connected and fulfilled at a mid size agency working remotely. Happy to DM you with more experiences or agency reccos.
This is great advice. I’ve been freelancing for several years now - and I can say without a doubt that the smaller shops are almost always more fun and more human. Hardly any broadcast, but tonnes of web and social, which can be fun.
But in the meantime, bear this cross with grace and offer it back to the Lord. He knows your heart and would not have you bear this if it were not a part of His plan for you.
I think you might need to try harder than just praying. Go get it!
Which city you at?
Was in Brooklyn; working remotely in Baltimore since COVID. Will hopefully get back to the boroughs once there’s a tried and tested vaccine for kids.
