Hi all,

Asking for resources for books/resources that dive into ODD and strategies to support students that are demand avoidant to the point that they exhibit destructive behavior. Willing to listen to podcasts too!

Thanks!

Have you read Amelia Bowler's The Teacher's Guide to Oppositional Defiant Disorder?? It came out in 2022 and it was a game changer for me in terms of understanding the condition. So much good research and info in there.

I haven't heard of this yet! Adding it to my list, thanks!

Acting out can be a symptom of anxiety in a child too. Some anxious children feel an overwhelming need to get out of a situation that's making them anxious. Their behavior may look like anger or defiance, lashing out, throwing tantrums, seeming distracted, moving around a lot, or arguing with others.

I’ve been dating a guy who’s in the process of separating from his husband. I’ve found it emotionally difficult that he is not available as much as would be expected - he has to sleep at home most nights, we can’t really have a social life together yet, our weekend time together is weaved in around his family obligations (they have a child), etc. How do I tell whether I’m being unreasonable or whether I’m in an unhealthy situation?

Do you work the holidays into your lesson plans this time of year? Or is it too much of a distraction from your routine? Teaching a SPED music class this year and the students have finally *mostly* become comfortable in the room and with the instruments + noise. We usually work on the same songs each week for one month, but I'm thinking of switching it up and doing Christmas/Holiday songs next week as a send off into break. I work with mostly autistic students.

Without warning it looks like we'll be switching from consultant teaching to inclusion...what do I need to know.
