No. You have 60-days to find new sponsorship or you are barred from remaining in the country legally.
Side note: A child would be on H-4 status and allowed in country if your h1 status was valid, but since you do not have a job you cannot do that.
Does the 60 days allowance allow for return to the US? Surely it does.

I suggest you post in the immigration bowl as well. You can enter the US so long as you are employed (until the last day). If your last day has already passed then you are no longer employed with the company and will be unable to re-enter as an H1b worker (I.e. The status tied to your old employer who laid you off. The 60 day period will not apply). You may be able to enter either if you find another job and get the H1B approved with the new employer or on a different visa status (e.g. Visitor visa/VWP)
